Iran has received five new aircraft, the state-run IRNA news agency reported on August 5, a day before the US began restoring sanctions suspended under the 2015 nuclear deal.

According to IRNA, five ATR72-600 aircraft, a twin-engine turboprop aircraft, arrived at Mehrabad International Airport in the capital Tehran.

Thus, Iran Air has received 13 out of 20 aircraft ordered from the Franco-Italian joint venture in April 2017.

The deal has a book value of $536 million. The nuclear deal with world powers allows Iran to replace its aging commercial fleet.

However, President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the US from the nuclear deal last May ended billions of dollars worth of deals that Iran signed with Airbus and Boeing.

Iran's economy has rapidly deteriorated in recent months, sparking protests.
