The move could contribute to creating a more open economic cooperation mechanism between this oil-rich country and the ASEAN region.
According to VNA correspondents in the Middle East, Iranian media quoted Singaporean Ambassador-at-Large in Tehran Ong Keng Yong as saying that this agreement will be signed at the upcoming ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting.
According to the Singaporean Ambassador, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will participate in signing this document at the conference scheduled to take place in Singapore on July 30.
Ambassador Ong stated: “ASEAN countries welcome any country that wants to sign the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.”
Singapore is currently holding the rotating ASEAN Chairmanship in 2018.
In the Middle East, political analysts say Asian countries are likely to continue to maintain cooperation with Iran despite pressure from Washington to end economic and trade cooperation with the Middle Eastern country.
Last May, US President Donald Trump decided to withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and ordered tightening sanctions on Tehran.
Washington also pressured and asked allies to end imports of Iranian oil by next November./.
