ISIS has again claimed responsibility for an attack in Yemen.

(Baonghean.vn) - After claiming responsibility for the bloody terrorist attacks on a Shiite mosque in the capital Sanaa on Friday, ISIS once again claimed responsibility on Monday for an attack that killed 29 people in Lahj province - an area that is traditionally an Al-Qaeda stronghold.

In a brief statement posted on Twitter, IS wrote that “the lions of the Islamic State” in Lahj province “eliminated 29 apostates among police, political, security and military personnel.” According to local authorities, the attack referred to by IS took place on Friday.

Police said a clash in Lahj province on Friday left 29 people dead, including 27 security personnel. Preliminary reports indicate that the armed men who attacked local police belonged to Ansar Al-Charia, a group linked to Al-Qaeda.

Amidst the escalating instability in Yemen, following the US troop withdrawal announcement on Saturday, an anonymous source indicated on Monday that British special forces in Yemen would also be redeployed. The British Foreign Office declined to comment on this. It is known that all British embassy staff in Yemen were evacuated from the country last month.

Since the summer of 2014, IS has been very active in Iraq, Syria, and most recently in Libya. It appears IS is ambitious to expand its "Caliphate" state in the Arab and African regions, having welcomed Boko Haram two weeks ago and repeatedly claiming responsibility for bloody attacks in Tunis and Yemen.
