Stones were piled up in long rows on the streets of Iraq in preparation for the barbaric execution by ISIS militants of a couple accused of adultery.

Shocking new images show Islamic State (IS) militants stoning a blindfolded couple to death in Iraq. The couple were condemned to death for premarital sex. A crowd, including children and women, gathered at a street corner in Mosul, the capital of Nineveh province, to witness the victims' punishment.

Abu Ansar al-Ansari, the long-bearded leader, directed the execution. He ordered the victims to be stoned for adultery. An ISIS militant, his face covered with a yellow scarf, was seen reading the accusations against the couple through a microphone and loudspeaker system, while the crowd jostled for better viewing positions.

According to Ibtimes, stones were piled in long rows in the middle of the road. IS gunmen then began throwing stones at the couple. Each stone hit them, causing their bodies to bounce. They helplessly endured the hail of stones raining down on them. Soon after, a pool of blood appeared on the road. The two victims eventually died from multiple severe injuries.

ISIS militants often carry out such barbaric executions according to the strict Sharia Islamic law. On March 19, a 27-year-old woman named Farkhunda was brutally murdered by a mob of men near a mosque after she allegedly saw them burning a copy of the Quran. Farkhunda was believed to have mental health issues. The mob executed Farkhunda with stones and sticks, then threw her from a rooftop before running her over with a car. A video of the shocking events subsequently circulated online.
