At least 60 other soldiers were wounded in the attack, officials said.

The bombing took place near the al-Sawlaban military base in Khor Maksar district of Aden. Last week, an IS suicide bomber detonated his explosives belt, killing 50 soldiers.

Aden is currently the temporary capital of Yemen's internationally recognized government, which has been fighting the armed Houthi movement since 2014.

Terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda and IS are taking advantage of the civil war to carry out assassinations and bombings, mainly in southern Yemen – nominally under government control.

In a statement posted on IS’s Amaq news agency, the group said the person who carried out the attack on December 18 was Abu Hashem al-Radfani. He detonated a suicide vest in a crowd of soldiers waiting to receive their salaries. IS said the death toll in the suicide bombing was more than 70 people./.
