The IS-linked Amaq news agency posted a statement saying: "A group of IS members carried out a bombing at a London Underground station."
Earlier in the day, British media reported an explosion on a London subway train, leaving several passengers with facial burns. British police said they were alerted to the incident at Parsons Green station in west London. Police, paramedics and gas inspectors were immediately dispatched to the scene.
In a press conference following the bombing at Parsons Green subway station, British Prime Minister Theresa May declared that unity would help Britain defeat the serious threat from terrorism that the country is facing.
Speaking to reporters in London, Prime Minister May said the bomb that exploded in the attack was designed to cause "significant casualties." Mrs. May acknowledged that Britain is facing a serious threat from terrorism, but also said that with joint efforts and unity, Britain will defeat terrorism.
Prime Minister May stressed the need to eliminate extremism and hostility, which are the root causes of terrorism. She said British authorities are working with internet service providers to censor information that contains extremist content, incites violence and terrorism.
She left open the possibility of raising the UK's terrorism threat level from the current "severe" level to "critical." Prime Minister May said that the UK's police and security agencies are currently investigating to determine the perpetrators of the latest attack.
Meanwhile, Sky News on the afternoon of September 15 quoted security sources as saying that British authorities had identified a suspect related to the bombing through images recorded by surveillance cameras./.
