Loud explosions were heard in Damascus at around 2am local time on January 21.
"Israel launched a massive air and ground attack using multiple cruise missiles. Our air defense systems immediately repelled the enemy missile attack," the source said.
Sputnik quoted the source as saying: "A significant part of the missiles were shot down before they reached their targets."
State-run Ikhbariya TV reported that Israeli air defenses shot down “dozens” of missiles. The media outlet also confirmed that Israel used a variety of weapons to carry out the overnight attack. Ikhbariya’s correspondent even said that the missiles were launched from Lebanese airspace, from the northern part of the Galilee region of Israel, and that they also attacked from the Lake Tiberias area.
