US Secretary of State visits North Korea for the third time

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Pyongyang on July 6 to discuss denuclearization with North Korean officials.

During his third visit to North Korea, the US Secretary of State will stay in North Korea for a day and a half. In addition to issues related to the process of complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Pompeo is expected to discuss the repatriation of the remains of 200 US soldiers killed in the 1950-1953 Korean War, as committed at the US-North Korea summit.

Israeli Interior Minister warns of possible attack if Syria deploys troops in the demilitarized border area in the Golan Heights. The statement by Israeli Interior Minister Gilad Erdan came on July 5 as the Syrian government army, with Russian support, is launching attacks to retake southern Daraa near the Golan border.

Minister Erdan said that Israel will do everything to let Russia and the Syrian government know that it will not accept the military presence of Mr. Assad in the demilitarized zones. In recent days, Israel has increased its military to protect its borders and prepared plans to counter the Syrian army. Minister Erdan stressed that if there is a military violation in southern Syria near Israel, Israel will take action.

The US-China trade war officially begins

The trade war between the world's two largest economies began after midnight on July 6 (US time) when the US decision to impose tariffs on $34 billion worth of Chinese goods officially took effect.

Oxygen levels in Tham Luang cave are running low

GuardianOn July 6, officials confirmed that the oxygen level in Tham Luang cave is currently 15%, while the normal level is around 21%.

Maintaining air circulation inside the cave has emerged as a major challenge as the 13 boys face the prospect of being trapped underground through the rainy season, which runs until October. Officials are working to extend a 5km cable into the cave to provide air to the boys.

At around 1-2am on July 6, diver Saman Kunan, a former member of the Thai SEAL special forces, died of lack of oxygen on the way back out. He passed out after entering the cave to place air tanks to re-supply everyone with oxygen.

Türkiye's private DHA news agency reported on July 6 that the country's anti-terrorism police arrested two British-Iraqi men at an airport in southwestern Türkiye on charges of spreading terrorist propaganda for outlawed Kurdish militants.

Brothers Ayman Barzan and Hariam Barzan were arrested at Dalaman airport after being questioned by anti-terror police over suspicious behaviour.

Police later checked the two men's social media accounts and found propaganda for the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) armed group.

US has no plans to withdraw troops stationed in Germany

The White House has reaffirmed that there are no plans to withdraw or send US troops home from Germany and that the issue will not be on the agenda of next week's NATO summit.

Dutch police are trying to track down a vial of a powerful poison that was stolen from the vault of a medical museum in the Dutch city of Leiden, according to the news site.Omroep West.

A vial containing cura, a poisonous resin extracted from a tree and often used by Native Americans to tip arrows, mysteriously disappeared on the morning of July 5 during a routine check by staff at the Boerhaave Museum. The stolen glass vial contained a sugar cube-sized amount of poison, according toThe Post Online.

“We are urgently searching for this vial of poison before innocent people come into contact with it,” said a spokesman for Leiden Police.

40 people died in a boat sinking in Thailand

Thailand's Port Authority confirmed that 40 people died in the boat sinking on the evening of July 5 and 16 people are still missing, all of them from China, according toNation.

Most of the bodies have not yet been brought ashore to be kept at Vachira Phuket Hospital. Rear Admiral Charoenphon Khumrasee of the Thai navy said divers had seen “more than 10 bodies” inside the sunken ship.

The Phoenix was carrying 105 passengers, mostly Chinese tourists, when it sank. Forty-nine people, including passengers and crew, were rescued before Thai authorities called off the search and rescue operation on the night of July 5.
