"I want to welcome the tough stance taken yesterday by President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo against the Iranian regime's aggression," Netanyahu said at the opening of the cabinet meeting.

Iran is Israel's main enemy and Prime Minister Netanyahu has long urged international powers to take a tougher stance against the Islamic Republic.

Also in his opening remarks at the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the Russian military chief of staff will visit Israel later today to discuss the conflict in neighboring Syria.

According to Mr. Netanyahu, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed the meeting "in a conversation with me a few days ago."

In recent months, the Israeli-Russian leaders have held a series of discussions on the conflict in Syria and Iran's military presence in the Middle Eastern country, a move that Israel has always opposed./.
