"At present, the Israel Defense Forces have attacked about 150 terrorist targets belonging to the Hamas and Islamic Jihad groups in the Gaza Strip," according to the latest report of the Jewish state's military.
At least three Palestinians and one Israeli were killed. More than 50 others were injured, two of them in critical condition, police and medics said.
The mutual airstrikes continue, despite calls from the international community and peace efforts by Egypt, the United Nations and the Palestinian Authority.
The cause of the escalation of the conflict was the two sides opening fire on each other while Tel Aviv was conducting military operations in the territory.
The incident, which occurred on November 11, left one Israeli officer and six Palestinians dead. According to local media, among them were senior Hamas commanders. The military wing of Islamic Jihad declared a general mobilization, and Israel sent its forces to Gaza.
