Tensions escalated as hundreds of youths stormed the security fence surrounding the Gaza Strip on Friday afternoon. The Israeli military fired live ammunition, tear gas and gas bombs at protesters, including women and children. Earlier, the Israeli military warned protesters in eastern Gaza via loudspeakers of the presence of snipers along the border and urged Palestinian protesters to stay away from the electric fence.
Palestinian protests have entered their sixth consecutive week against Israel's occupation and the US decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, scheduled for May 15. So far, clashes between the Israeli army and protesters have killed 45 Palestinians and injured about 1,143 people./.
