(Baonghean)According to regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training, students from impoverished districts are eligible for direct admission to universities and colleges. In our province, students from the districts of Tuong Duong, Ky Son, and Que Phong are eligible for this preferential admission. However, opportunities to enter universities under this preferential admission scheme are almost nonexistent in many schools.

The Foreign Trade University announced that this year, no more than 1% of the total enrollment quota will be allocated to students from impoverished districts for direct admission. These students must have achieved excellent academic results in grades 10, 11, and 12, and graduated from high school with honors. Based on the average GPA of the three years (grades 10, 11, and 12), the university will select students in descending order until all quotas are filled.

According to the regulations of the Vietnam Trade Union University, only candidates with excellent academic performance in grades 10, 11, and 12 and who graduated from high school with excellent grades are eligible for direct admission to undergraduate programs. For admission to college-level programs, candidates must have achieved good academic performance in all three years of high school and graduated from high school with good grades.

The University of Mining and Geology also stated that the direct admission criteria for candidates from poor districts are having excellent academic performance in grades 10, 11, and 12; graduating from high school with excellent grades; and the university only considers 35 students in this category. Meanwhile, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Hue University only consider direct admission to four majors: Traditional Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, with the condition that candidates must have an average score of excellent in the three subjects of the chosen major for the three years of high school (grades 10, 11, and 12); graduate from high school with excellent grades or higher; and have a good conduct rating for all three years of high school. The Faculty of Law (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) announced that it only considers direct admission for candidates with excellent academic performance in all three years of high school, graduating from high school with excellent grades, and only has 5 slots available.

Commenting on the reason for this "avoidance," an admissions expert from Hanoi National University said that with the current somewhat lenient high school graduation exam, the number of students who can graduate and be eligible for direct admission to universities and colleges under the new regulations is quite large. Without stricter conditions, this would significantly affect the admissions process of these institutions.
