JCG: Three Chinese ships intrude into Japanese waters.
On the morning of October 30, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) reported that three Chinese coast guard vessels had entered Japanese waters near the disputed islands, which Japan calls Senkaku and China calls Diaoyu, in the East China Sea. This was the first intrusion since October 18.

According to the 11th Regional Headquarters of the Japan Coast Guard in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, Chinese vessels have been operating in the contiguous zone outside of Japanese waters since October 24.

The Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands are a group of small islands under Japanese control, but China also claims sovereignty over them and frequently sends ships or aircraft there.
Disputes over sovereignty of the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands have cast a dark shadow over Sino-Japanese relations for some time, particularly after the Japanese government nationalized three of the five islands in September 2012.
