The German Football Federation (DFB) announced that Joachim Loew will continue to serve as head coach of the German national team until after the 2018 World Cup.

Loew led Germany to the top of the world two years ago in Brazil, but the recent semi-final defeat to host France at EURO 2016 has left the 56-year-old strategist's future quite uncertain.

However, all doubts were dispelled when Loew himself confirmed that he would stay with Die Mannschaft until after the 2018 World Cup, which is also the time when his contract expires.

"Of course we all feel disappointed after Germany's defeat in the semi-finals of EURO 2016. However, the whole team does not feel discouraged. We have the youngest players in the tournament and I see great potential in the future," Loew shared.

"I believe that the players will bring joy to the fans. Therefore, I am very happy to continue working and fighting with my students in the upcoming 2018 World Cup campaign."

DFB President Reinhard Grinde also hopes Loew will continue to stay and contribute to the national team.

"There have been many doubts about the position of head coach of the German national team in the past few days after the failure at EURO 2016. However, we still trust Loew and he will still lead the team with the biggest task of defending the World Cup championship in Russia."

Germany will begin their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign against Norway on September 4.
