Juventus defeated Milan with the 'combined swords' of Higuain - Dybala

October 29, 2017 08:49

The quality of the attack was the difference that helped the defending champion win 2-0 when visiting San Siro in round 11 of Serie A on October 28.

Goals: Higuain 23', 63'

The reigning Serie A champions scored both goals with powerful shots down the middle, relying on the talents of their two attacking stars. The third consecutive victory helped Juventus climb to the top of the table, with Napoli and Inter yet to play round 11. On the other hand, the pressure is mounting on coach Vincenzo Montella as his Milan have won just one of their last six games.

Milan's first dangerous chance came in the 17th minute when striker Nikola Kalinic headed wide from Ignazio Abate's cross. The difference in class between Kalinic and Higuain was quickly revealed in the 23rd minute. Dybala controlled the ball neatly and passed it to Higuain right on the 16m50 line. The Argentine striker handled it skillfully and fired a low cannon shot. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma reacted immediately and touched the ball lightly, but still had to concede the first goal.

Kalinic also had a chance to threaten Buffon’s goal at the end of the first half, but was not sharp enough to beat the “living legend” of Italy. Milan did everything in the second half to earn points. However, Montella was criticized after bringing on midfielder Manuel Locatelli and defender Luca Antonelli in the 61st minute when Milan needed to attack. Just two minutes later, the decision to make a double substitution cost the home team.

Higuain's double against Milan gave him 101 goals in Serie A for Napoli and then Juventus. He is only the second player after Ibrahimovic to score at least 100 goals in two of Europe's top five leagues in the last 20 years. Before that, Higuain scored 107 goals for Real Madrid. Photo: JFC.

Kwadwo Asamoah counterattacked on the left wing, passing the ball to Dybala instead of going down the line as usual. Difficult to receive the ball comfortably, Dybala gave it to Higuain behind. In response, the most expensive striker in Juventus history let the ball drift, causing the red and black defender to lose his balance and slip. With an open shot, Higuain beat Donnarumma for the second time, still with a low shot.

Milan threatened Buffon's goal a few more times, but could not get past the 39-year-old goalkeeper. The only time Kalinic defeated the Italian captain, he still did not score thanks to a clearance from Stephan Liechtsteiner. In the final minutes, Milan ran out of ideas and let Juventus hold the ball until the final whistle.
