Kaka has the highest salary in MLS, seven times that of Lee Nguyen

The Brazilian midfielder holds the number one position on the salary table of the US professional soccer league, playing for Orlando City.

Kaka's salary at Orlando City is currently $7.2 million per year, slightly more than the second place, with $7 million, Sebastian Giovinco of Toronto.

Michael Bradley, who has 113 caps for the US national team, is in third place with $6.5 million a year while playing for Toronto.

Fourth and fifth place went to two former Premier League stars, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

Kaka is the salary king of MLS, with a much higher income than many other big names from Europe currently present in this number one North American football league.

Lampard's two famous New York City teammates, Andrea Pirlo and David Villa, are the sixth and seventh highest paid players. The four players in fourth through seventh place earn an annual salary of around $5.8 million.

Other former Premier League stars in the top 20 include Robbie Keane (11th; 3.5 million), Tim Howard (12th; 2.5 million), and Didier Drogba (13th; 2.15 million).

Vietnamese-American star Lee Nguyen, according to Boston.com, receives a salary of one million dollars a year for the New England Revolution. This figure is only half of the highest salary in the Revolutions, which belongs to striker Kei Kamara, and only one-seventh of the highest salary in the league, which is paid to Kaka.

Most of the lesser-known players at MLS clubs are paid around $51,000 a year. That has led to frequent debates about the huge difference between the salaries of most players, compared to the maximum of three players per club who are paid above the MLS salary cap.

About 84% of players polled said MLS players are not paid fairly.

Toronto FC was the highest-paying team in MLS last season, but their total payroll was only about $21.7 million.

FC Dallas' total player salaries last season were just $4.3 million, less than the individual earnings of the league's top ten highest-paid players.
