Kidnapper's plan to 'return the gift if you don't love her' demands 5 billion ransom
Due to debt, the man made a plan to kidnap a rich female college student, in which he used the trick of "if you don't love her, return the gift".
Regarding the case of Tra Vinh University student TBH (21 years old, residing in Cau Ke district), who was kidnapped and extorted for 5 billion, the Investigation Police Department of Tra Vinh province is expanding the investigation and searching for those involved.
The investigation agency has temporarily detained Nguyen Quoc Toan (28 years old, residing in Thoi Lai district, Can Tho city) and Nguyen Chi Tam (20 years old; residing in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh city) to serve the investigation.

Debt debt kidnapping female student for ransom
At this point, Toan confessed to the plan to kidnap female student H., which he had set up.
At the police station, Toan confessed that due to a business loss of about 200 million VND, he came up with the idea of kidnapping for ransom.
Because Toan married a woman in Cau Ke district, near H.'s house, he knew that this female student came from a wealthy family. Toan lied to his wife, saying that he wanted H.'s phone number to introduce her to his friend.
After getting H.'s phone number, Toan created a Zalo account, became friends, and texted the female student from Tra Vinh University. He told H. his name was Tam. Before carrying out his plan to kidnap H., Toan borrowed 50 million VND.
However, Toan knew that he could not kidnap female student H. alone, so he called Nguyen Chi Tam to join him.
At first, Toan did not tell Tam clearly about kidnapping the female student for ransom but made up a thrilling story.

Accordingly, Toan told Tam that he had a special mission to capture a girl in Tra Vinh and bring her back to Vinh Long. Toan asked Tam to help him, and when he completed the mission, he would be rewarded 200 million VND. After hearing his friend talk about the large reward, Tam agreed.
Toan asked Tam to meet him in Binh Minh Town (Vinh Long), then they went to Tra Vinh to investigate H.'s house to kidnap him.
Both of them ran to inquire about the female student's family's living habits and found out that H. studied in Tra Vinh city and rarely came home.
At first, Toan planned to kidnap female student H. on a deserted road from Tra Vinh city to Cau Ke district. However, this plan was not feasible, so he made an appointment with H. to kidnap her.
A week before the kidnapping, Toan invited Tran Minh Hieu (24 years old) and Thach Hoang Son (29 years old, both living in Can Tho City) to Tra Vinh to visit, but the purpose was to introduce them to H.
After that, Hieu and Son rode a motorbike to Tra Vinh. Toan made an appointment with female student H. to go to a coffee shop in Tra Vinh city to give her a bottle of perfume. Toan gave the bottle of perfume to Hieu and Son to give to H. at the coffee shop.
At this time, he also called to hire a taxi and waited, when he had the chance, he would kidnap H.
Toan told the driver: "I'm looking for my sister who ran away with another man so her family asked me to take her home" to cover up the kidnapping.
Because the area where H. arranged to meet was quite crowded, Toan could not carry out the kidnapping.
As for Hieu and Son, after going to the shop to drink water and give H. a gift, they left. That night, Toan continued to text H. to meet in a deserted place to have a chance to kidnap her, but she refused.
The "no love, return the gift" scheme
Not giving up, Toan continued to think of ways to kidnap the female student. After several failed text messages to confess his love, Toan thought of a plan of "if you don't love her, then ask for the gift back".
Toan texted the female student, demanding the return of the bottle of perfume he had given her. Accordingly, if the female student agreed to come to the meeting place, he would arrange for someone to kidnap her and take her to the car.
This time, Toan contacted two friends in Ho Chi Minh City named Hung and Hoang to help.
Toan said that he only needed to take H. from Tra Vinh to a hotel in Vinh Long City and he would have 200 million VND. Toan arranged a hotel in Vinh Long and told Hung and Hoang to take a bus to Tra Vinh to help.
Toan came up with the plan 'if you don't love him, return the gift' to kidnap female student H. and demand 5 billion ransom. |
The group then moved to Tra Vinh to carry out the plan.
On the morning of January 13, Toan texted H. to meet at a coffee shop to get back the perfume bottle. Before H. arrived at the meeting place, Toan arranged for a taxi to wait and let Hung and Hoang know. Tam was also sitting in the shop.
When H. and her friend arrived at the coffee shop, Tam signaled the female student to leave the gift package on the table. As soon as H. turned away, Hung and Hoang approached, grabbed her hair, forced her into a waiting car, and escaped towards Vinh Long.
Toan and Tam also quickly took their motorbikes and left.
Hoang and Hung restrained and took the female student to the hotel, waiting for Toan to come and hand her over. When they met, Toan gave Hung and Hoang 5 million VND, so that they could return to Ho Chi Minh City. Toan promised to give the remaining money the next day.
Then, Toan said he had to threaten H.'s family to demand ransom and Tam agreed. After discussing, Toan took the female student's phone number and texted the victim's mother.
"Prepare 5 billion for me, otherwise I won't be able to see my daughter." After sending the message, Toan hung up and called a taxi to the hotel to take him somewhere else to avoid being detected by the police.
On the way, Toan kept changing hotels and traveling by taxi. Toan took the female student to a hotel in Thot Not district, Can Tho city to rent a room.
Here, Toan opened several of the female student's phones and asked her to call her family. Toan asked H.'s family to prepare 5 billion and bring it to the toll station on Highway 91 to ransom her. Toan forbade H.'s family from reporting to the police.

After the call, Toan hung up. At around 4am, Toan turned on the phone so the female student could call her relatives. Over the phone, the female student’s mother said she had prepared the 5 billion VND that Toan requested and was waiting at the meeting point. Toan and Tam took the female student into a taxi and drove to the toll station.
Inside the taxi, Toan saw the female student's mother holding her handbag waiting by the side of the highway, so he felt quite reassured.
Seeing that there was no one around, Toan told Tam to get down, receive the money and hand over the person. When Tam had just snatched the bag from the victim's mother's hand, the undercover police force rushed in, rescued the female student and arrested Toan and Tam.
GThe director of Tra Vinh Provincial Police directed the establishment of a special task force with the determination to clarify the case as soon as possible, especially ensuring the safety of the hostages.
