Man who attempted to assassinate US President Obama sentenced to 25 years in prison.
On January 17, a US federal court sentenced Everett Dutschke, a 41-year-old martial arts instructor, for sending letters containing the poison ricin to President Barack Obama and several other officials.
At the trial held in Oxford, Mississippi, with overwhelming evidence, the US federal court convicted the defendant Dutschke of manufacturing ricin and sending letters laced with the poison to numerous people, including President Obama.

For these crimes, the court sentenced him to 25 years in prison, and the sentence will be officially approved within two months.
Everett Dutschke was arrested on April 27, 2013, at his home in Tupelo after federal investigators found traces of ricin at his taekwondo gym and in his car, along with an online order for red castor oil on eBay from December 2012.
On his personal computer, Dutschke also kept at least two documents instructing on how to synthesize ricin. The suspect was also charged on April 1st with sexually assaulting three children aged 7 to 16 between 2010 and 2013.
The toxic letters discovered last April, shortly after the Boston bombings, recalled similar events to those that occurred when a series of letters and packages containing anthrax powder appeared following the devastating terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The incident led to the temporary closure of all congressional mailboxes, postal service locations within the Capitol building and the White House, and tightened security in the surrounding area.
Ricin is classified as a highly toxic substance, used as a weapon of mass destruction. According to chemists, just 1 gram of this substance is enough to kill 36,000 people. Those poisoned by ricin typically experience vomiting, difficulty breathing, cyanosis (bluish skin), coma, and death within 36-72 hours of exposure.
Currently, there is no antidote for ricin poisoning.
