Reactionary who wanted to overthrow the government received 12 years in prison

On the afternoon of December 29, Thai Binh Provincial Police announced that the People's Court of Binh Dinh Province had just sentenced Nguyen Van Tuan (born in 1984, from Thai Thuy District, Thai Binh Province) to 12 years in prison for "Activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government" and sentenced him to 3 years of probation in the locality where he resided before committing the crime, after completing his prison sentence.

Previously, according to investigation documents, Nguyen Van Tuan (born in 1984, freelance worker; Permanent residence: Zone 9, Diem Dien town, Thai Thuy district, Thai Binh province) was born into a family with no notable political problems and had no criminal record.

However, due to limited political awareness, combined with frequent internet access and exposure to false and unfiltered information, Tuan developed a discontented and opposing ideology and was hooked and enticed by the exiled reactionary organization "Provisional National Government of Vietnam" (led by Dao Minh Quan in the US).

Nguyen Van Tuan voluntarily applied to join and was accepted into the organization by some leaders of the "Provisional National Government of Vietnam".

Following the direction of the "Provisional National Government of Vietnam", on January 27, 2017 (ie the 30th day of the Lunar New Year Dinh Dau), Tuan distributed leaflets in Diem Dien town (Thai Thuy, Thai Binh) in the form of writing with anti-Party, anti-State content, calling for support for the "Provisional National Government of Vietnam" on 26 1,000 VND bills.

In addition, Tuan also received the task of distributing leaflets in Dong Anh district, Hanoi, but was promptly neutralized by the police.

To prevent the criminal acts of the subject, on March 4, 2017, the Investigation Security Agency of Thai Binh Provincial Police executed an arrest warrant to temporarily detain and search the residence and permanent residence registration of Nguyen Van Tuan for the crime of "Activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government", according to Article 79 - Penal Code.

Through the struggle, the subject honestly confessed and admitted his criminal acts as well as his participation in the organization "Provisional National Government of Vietnam".

To serve the purpose of collecting and consolidating evidence and expanding the investigation of the case, the Thai Binh Provincial Police Security Investigation Agency transferred the case file to the Binh Dinh Provincial Police Security Investigation Agency to complete the case file, prosecute and try it according to the provisions of law.

On December 27, the People's Court of Binh Dinh province opened the first-instance trial of the case of propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government.

At the end of the trial, the People's Court of Binh Dinh province sentenced Nguyen Van Tuan to 12 years in prison for "Activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government" and 3 years of probation in the locality where the defendant resided before committing the crime from the time he completed his prison sentence./.
