(Baonghean.vn) - Keng Du, located nearly 80km from the district center, is a particularly disadvantaged commune in Ky Son district. The Khmu and Thai ethnic minorities in the remote villages of this area are facing a severe shortage of clean water.

| Keng Du commune is located in the northwest of Ky Son district, with 25 km of border shared with neighboring Laos. |
| Due to its harsh climate and limited streams, the people of Keng Du, a high-altitude mountainous area, face a severe shortage of clean water. Along the road from Dooc May commune to Keng Du, residents have to search for water in mountain streams. |
| Over 92% of the people in Keng Du commune are Khmu ethnic minorities, with a poverty rate of up to 72.4%. The lack of clean water further exacerbates the difficulties faced by the people of Keng Du commune. In the photo, a Khmu boy washes wild vegetables at a roadside tap. |

| In many villages, people have to walk very far to fetch water for their use. |
| Ky Son district has made many efforts to help the people of Keng Du commune build a gravity-fed water system for the villages. However, the extremely high and steep terrain makes bringing water to the area very difficult. The pipelines are often damaged and clogged after each heavy rain. |
| As evening falls, the people of Keng Du often help each other walk to the natural water source to bathe and fetch water for daily use. |

During a recent meeting with constituents and the provincial National Assembly delegation, residents of Keng Du raised several issues related to the lack of clean water. Mr. Bui Tram, Chairman of the Ky Son District People's Committee, stated that the stream system in Keng Du is far from residential areas, and the depletion of forests has led to increasingly low water levels in the streams, causing greater difficulties for the residents. Mr. Tram urged residents to raise their awareness of forest conservation and regularly maintain the self-flowing water pipeline system to prevent deterioration.
