The TV channel replacing VTV6 officially goes on air

According to the announcement of Vietnam Television, VTV Can Tho will officially broadcast on October 13, 2022, replacing the previous VTV6 channel.

In a document sent to the media, VTV affirmed: "As a national television station, VTV is always aware of its responsibility and performs well its role in providing information and propaganda to serve socio-economic development, national construction and development, including the provinces of the Southwest region with an area and population accounting for nearly 20% of the country. Vietnam Television has made efforts to increase the effectiveness of implementing political tasks in this area through the activities of VTV9 and VTV5 Southwest channels. However, due to many new requirements in practice, adjustments are needed to promptly meet the information needs associated with the increasingly clear development of this region."

Regarding the reason for stopping production and broadcasting of VTV6 channel, Vietnam Television said: "VTV6 channel was born in 2007. Over the past 15 years, VTV6 channel has completed an important goal, which is to orient, lead, and influence the ideology, ethics, and lifestyle of Vietnamese youth and teenagers.

Implementing the Prime Minister's direction on building Vietnam Television into a key multimedia media agency and the Prime Minister's Directive on improving the effectiveness of information and propaganda work to serve political tasks and essential information in the 2021-2025 period, after a period of research and practical assessment, Vietnam Television restructured its organization and television channels: stopping production and broadcasting VTV6 channel from 0:30 on October 10, 2022 and moving content for teenagers to other television channels, on VTV Can Tho television channel and other platforms of Vietnam Television.

VTV Can Tho is a national television channel with comprehensive information content serving the people of the Southwest region, broadcasting 18 hours a day, from 5:30 to 23:30. With the criteria of closeness, imbued with the imprint of the Mekong Delta, dynamic in integration, promoting the connection between localities in the Mekong Delta with Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast and other regions in the country, the main programs on VTV Can Tho channel include: news and political programs; cultural, entertainment and sports programs; science and education programs; feature films and other programs.

In an effort to meet the audience's need for information updates, the Vietnam Television Center in the Southwest region has built a system of 4 news bulletins, including:The West today(morning, noon, afternoon) andBreaking news(9:30 p.m.). The news bulletins will continuously update the latest, most interesting and closest information in the 13 provinces and cities of the Southwest. In addition, documentary and scientific programs, which were the strengths of the Can Tho Radio reporter and editor team in the past, will continue to be invested in and produced in depth to introduce the history and cultural beauty of the Southwest, the scenic spots and heritage of the region; scientific, educational, consulting and knowledge dissemination programs on agriculture, rural areas, health, population, science and technology such as:Discussion on Medical Connection, Agricultural Bridge, Agriculture 4.0, Reportage, Documentary.

The cultural and entertainment section is also a new highlight of the channel with traditional art, music and entertainment programs suitable for the culture and tastes of the people of the Western river region such asCai Luong, Music, Love Song of the Past, Memories of the West, Missing the West.

The feature film section features good domestic and foreign films in the psychological and social genre that are popular with many audiences. Sports programs bring audiences news, domestic and international competitions, local sports events and top football matches on VTV Can Tho.
