Nowadays, although modern medicine (YHHĐ) is strongly developing, traditional medicine (YHCT) still plays an important role, is the treatment method chosen by many people. From the early days, the department only had 1 doctor and 11 physicians, nurses, the facilities were still limited, only 47 beds. Along with that, the Oriental Medicine Department of Cua Dong General Hospital implements a method of combining treatment with Oriental Medicine and Modern Medicine, bringing high efficiency; creating trust for patients. The department implements a treatment method mainly using acupuncture according to the acupoints, after diagnosing the patient's illness, water acupuncture into the acupoints, restoring the nerves, massage, acupressure; implanting threads into the acupoints to help relax muscles, reduce pain in degenerative spine disease, peripheral neuritis.
The department applies modern equipment such as (X-ray machine, magnetic resonance, electroencephalogram, electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, abdominal ultrasound...) to detect diseases and provide accurate treatment regimens. Regarding drug therapy, the department performs traditional herbal medicine decoction for each patient in accordance with each individual prescription, combined with Western medicine such as: vitamins, anti-neuritis drugs, resistance-enhancing drugs, nerve supplements.

The department currently has a system of therapeutic and rehabilitation machines such as: 4 electric pulse machines, 4 spinal traction machines, 2 ultrasound machines for joint treatment, 2 local electromagnetic field machines, 2 laser machines for intravascular ultrasound, infrared projectors, ultrasound machines for joint treatment... infrared projectors, acupuncture machines... Especially the automatic, modern medicine decoction machines, convenient for daily treatment and patient care.

With the orientation of becoming one of the prestigious addresses in examination and treatment according to oriental medicine methods in the North Central region, the Oriental Medicine Department, Cua Dong General Hospital focuses on promoting solutions to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment. Mr. Nguyen Huu Tam - MD, Head of Oriental Medicine Department - Cua Dong General Hospital said: In the coming time, the department will increase its staff (increase 10 oriental medicine specialists, 5 physicians), focus on improving the expertise and professionalism of the medical team. At the same time, focus on implementing the project to innovate the style and service attitude of medical staff, aiming at patient satisfaction.
In addition to the traditional medicine specialty combined with rehabilitation, the department also strengthens new specialties: Rehabilitation after trauma, after surgery, applying advanced techniques in injection into the joint cavity to treat acute arthritis and spinal epidural to treat disc herniation, massage and acupressure to impact the spine... The department will implement solutions to increase the number of hospital beds to 100, increase the ability to receive patients; promote the effectiveness of equipment, develop new techniques in disease treatment; promote the socialization of more medical equipment. The department strives to achieve the goal of good and fair quality of medical examination and treatment in 2017; the rate of patients recovering and being cured reaches 70 - 80%.
