(Baonghean) - What do we see through the Kha Banh phenomenon? I think it is a manifestation of the crisis of trust in today's society. Or more precisely and neutrally, let's call it an ideological revolution.

Kha Banh's arrest was the most prominent news of the past week.

Speaking more about Kha Banh, first of all, it must be affirmed that this is a sudden phenomenon of social networks and also an interesting case study that makes many brothers in the media industry laugh and cry. Kha is a "gangster", no one knows exactly what Kha does but everyone assumes one thing: This character is obviously related to illegal activities. Ironically, many viewers expressed their agreement with Kha Banh, taking this character as a standard for the way of life that Kha Banh defines as "Living with love". Whether Kha Banh is a good or bad image, this is still controversial, but one thing cannot be denied: Kha Banh is extremely successful in building an image, shown through his Youtube channel reaching more than 1 million followers, higher than even long-time artists. The "rise" of Kha Banh, followed by many other gangsters such as Phu Le, Huan Hoa Hong, etc. made many people exclaim: Foreign gangsters kill each other to fight for territory, Vietnamese gangsters fight with each other to fight for the Youtube gold button.

What do you see through the Kha Banh phenomenon? I think it is a manifestation of the crisis of confidence in today's society. Or more precisely and neutrally, let's call it an ideological revolution. If our parents' generation, those born about a decade after the country gained independence and before, defined success in society by educational level, then the generation from the second half of the 8x generation onwards has a completely different perspective. Many new professions were born from the constant development of science and technology. Many old professions gradually faded away. That revolution also changed the perception of society. In the past, it was pawnbroking, today it is personal financial consulting support services, in the past it was unemployment, today it is freelancer... The change does not stop at the name but also in the way society perceives and evaluates.

Professions such as doctors, engineers, teachers, etc. are not no longer respected in today's society, but their importance has clearly decreased significantly. Many disturbing incidents have been related to these professions, and even the social status of these professions has been exploited to do bad things, causing the community to lose faith in those who were once respected by society. In that context, the void caused by lost trust needs to be filled, which gives birth to characters like Kha Banh. I believe that Kha Banh's fans must see some value in Kha, something that they cannot find in anyone else. Those must be positive values in a certain aspect, to a greater or lesser extent.

Kha is not necessarily bad. But I find the fact that the community honors, admires and follows Kha really worrying. Has our society degenerated to the point that the current young generation has no one better than Kha to idolize? If our descendants look back on history 100 years from now, what will they think when the most prominent legacy our generation left behind is the fan dance and the hairstyle of a gangster?
