Addressing the shortcomings in median strip construction.
(Baonghean)According to regulations, median strips are intended to divide roads into two lanes, facilitating traffic flow and contributing to accident reduction. Cutting the solid median strip is only permitted at necessary and essential intersections. However, in reality, in Vinh City, some roads such as Nguyen Trai and Mai Hac De are not complying with these regulations.
Specifically, the median strip on Nguyen Trai Street (from Quan Banh intersection to Quan Bau junction) is divided very arbitrarily. For example, at some points without intersections, such as north of Quan Bau junction and south of Quan Bau gas station, a median strip of about 20-30 meters is opened. Conversely, at the intersection with Hoang Phan Thai Street—a high-traffic route from the center of Nghi Phu commune—there is no median strip, causing many inconveniences and dangers in traffic.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh, residing in Hamlet 15, Nghi Phu Commune, stated: "Because the median strip hasn't been opened, vehicles coming from Hoang Phan Thai Street wanting to enter the city center have to travel a distance north before turning back. Similarly, vehicles coming from Nguyen Trai Street wanting to enter Hoang Phan Thai Street have to travel a distance before turning back. To avoid going around, some vehicles, such as motorbikes and bicycles, have resorted to taking shortcuts and driving against the flow of traffic, leading to frequent accidents here."
Similarly, on Mai Hac De Street, at the intersection with Nguyen Canh Hoan Street, a median strip should have been opened to facilitate traffic flow, but instead, it was opened to the south and north, both nearly 100 meters away, causing numerous inconveniences.
We request that the relevant authorities promptly inspect and rectify these irregularities to facilitate traffic flow for the public.
