International visitors to Vietnam have increased sharply since the beginning of the year.
According to the latest figures from the General Statistics Office, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in January 2014 was estimated at over 722,000, an increase of 7.45% compared to December 2013 and an increase of 20.79% compared to the same period last year.
Among the top 10 source markets for tourists to Vietnam, China still leads with nearly 159,000 visitors, an increase of 18.5% compared to the same period last year; South Korea with 82,000 visitors, a decrease of 2.2%; Japan with 58,000 visitors, an increase of 12.3%; the US with nearly 52,000 visitors, an increase of 11.7%; Russia with 48,600 visitors, an increase of 88.7%; Taiwan with 31,500 visitors, an increase of 11.7%; Cambodia with 31,300 visitors, an increase of 5.7%; Thailand with 24,000 visitors, an increase of 13.8%; France with nearly 20,000 visitors, an increase of 7.4%; and the UK with 18,800 visitors, an increase of 18.3%.
This is good news for the tourism industry, as the number of international visitors has increased significantly since the beginning of 2014 compared to the same period last year. In 2014, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will strengthen e-marketing activities and apply information technology in tourism promotion and marketing, as well as enhance tourism promotion through various measures in major and key markets to attract international tourists.
