Chinese 'big customers' rush to buy, fruit and vegetable exports hit record high of 5 billion USD
By mid-November, our country's fruit and vegetable exports set a historic record of 5 billion USD. Of which, China is the customer that buys the most types of Vietnamese fruit and vegetables.
Preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs show that as of November 15, our country's fruit and vegetable exports officially surpassed 5 billion USD. Accordingly, in the top 10 key export items of the agricultural sector, fruit and vegetables are the items with the strongest growth rate and turnover is only behind the group of wood and seafood products.
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, durian is the biggest contributor to the growth of the fruit and vegetable industry, accounting for 40% of the industry's export turnover. To date, durian exports have surpassed 2 billion USD.

Other fruits such as jackfruit, watermelon, grapefruit, and longan all had strong growth compared to the same period last year.
In terms of market structure, by the end of October 2023, China accounted for 66.1% of the export value of the entire fruit and vegetable industry, reaching 3.2 billion USD, an increase of 164.7% over the same period in 2022.
In addition, fruit and vegetable exports to markets such as South Korea, the Netherlands, and the UAE also increased sharply in the first 10 months of 2023.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said that the reason for the breakthrough in fruit and vegetable exports this year is because China and many other countries increased their purchases of Vietnamese goods.
Fruit and vegetable exports continue to increase strongly at the end of the year due to the peak of the Tet holiday season. Accordingly, fruit and vegetable export turnover is forecast to reach 5.5 billion USD in 2023.
According to the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), Vietnam's fruit and vegetable products are increasingly open for export. Authorities are actively negotiating to open the market for passion fruit to the US and Australia; grapefruit to Japan, Korea, Australia, India; durian to India; citrus fruits, coconuts, frozen durian to China...
Although fruit and vegetable exports are recording positive results, authorities recommend that exporting enterprises need to control the quality of their products well and strictly ensure compliance with regulations from import markets, as more and more countries are applying technical barriers.
