Opening Ceremony of Cua Temple Festival

(Baonghean.vn) - This morning (April 30), the People's Committee of Nghi Khanh commune, Nghi Loc district, held the opening ceremony of the 2015 Cua Temple Festival. The festival takes place over three days, from April 29 to May 1, with many cultural, artistic, and sporting activities; a large number of local people and tourists attended the ceremony.

The Cửa Temple Festival is a traditional folk festival held annually at the Cửa Temple historical and cultural site (Nghi Khánh commune). Also known as Khánh Duệ Temple, it was built in the 13th century and is dedicated to Queen Âu Cơ, Cao Sơn, Cao Các, the Three Holy Mothers, and other virtuous figures who contributed to the fight against foreign invaders and the defense of the country, such as Chiêu Minh Vương, General Trần Quang Khải, General Ninh Vệ (who sacrificed himself in the war against Champa), Duke Nguyễn Cảnh Quế, and Confucian scholar Phùng Thời Tá…

Numerous tourists and locals attended the festival.

During the two wars of resistance against French colonialism and American imperialism, Cua Temple served as a secret base for revolutionary fighters such as comrades Nguyen Duy Trinh and Hoang Van Tam, a place to hide weapons and train soldiers. Along with Corn Temple in Quynh Luu and Cuong Temple in Dien Chau, Cua Temple is one of the largest temples in the coastal area of ​​Nghe An.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Suu, Chairman of the Nghi Khanh Commune People's Committee, delivered a speech recalling the historical traditions of Cua Temple and expressing gratitude for the merits of the ancestors.

In 2009, Cua Temple was recognized as a historical and cultural relic by the People's Committee of Nghe An province; in 2010, the People's Committee of the province allowed the organization of the Cua Temple festival annually.

The ceremonial part included the opening ceremony, the announcement ceremony, the incense offering ceremony, the worship of the gods, and the commemoration of the death anniversary of Mother Au Co; the festive part included cultural and sports activities and folk games such as volleyball, tug-of-war, etc.
