(Baonghean.vn) - On the evening of January 25th, the 2014 Spring Festival of Western Nghe An was held at Thai Hoa Town Stadium.
Attending the event were members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee: Ms. Dinh Thi Le Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Luong Quang Kinh - Head of the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee; leaders of several provincial departments and agencies, along with representatives from the districts of Nghia Dan, Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Que Phong, Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong, Tan Ky and Thai Hoa town.
The evening performance was held from 5 PM to 11 PM on the same day, featuring the Provincial Folk Music and Dance Troupe, and professional and amateur performers from the districts of Nghia Dan, Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Que Phong, and Thai Hoa town.
At exactly 8:30 PM, Comrade Dinh Thi Le Thanh beat the drum to officially open the festival and delivered a speech, emphasizing that the Spring Festival of Western Nghe An is an activity organized with the aim of promoting the beautiful customs and traditions of the ethnic communities in Western Nghe An, strengthening the unity of the Vietnamese people; and at the same time, promoting and introducing Western Nghe An to domestic and foreign tourists. The Vice Chairman of the province hoped that the ethnic communities in Western Nghe An would join hands to contribute to building a more prosperous and culturally rich province.

At the festival, participating groups enjoyed many traditional folk games such as: throwing the ball, swinging on a swing, playing gongs and drums, carving furrows, and bamboo pole dancing… In addition, the festival featured artistic performances and a spring costume show of the ethnic minorities in western Nghe An. Particularly, the rituals praying for a good harvest and favorable weather, performed by the ethnic minority communities in western Nghe An, added to the festival's rich cultural identity.
