Opening Ceremony of the National Classical Wrestling and Freestyle Wrestling Championships

On May 19th, at the Thai Nguyen Provincial Sports Service and Competition Center, the General Department of Physical Education and Sports, in coordination with the Thai Nguyen Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized the opening ceremony of the 2014 National Youth Classical Wrestling and Freestyle Wrestling Championships.

Over 320 athletes from 17 delegations representing 15 provinces and the police and military sectors across the country participated in this competition.

The athletes compete in age groups of 14-15 years old and 16-17 years old.

Each age group competes in 10 weight categories, with the 14-15 age group competing in weight classes from 32 to 85kg for boys and 30 to 62kg for girls.

Ages 16 to 17 compete in weight categories ranging from 42 to 100kg for men and 38 to 70kg for women.

This is an opportunity for athletes to compete, test their abilities, and assess their own skill level and the quality of their coaches.

Through this tournament, the organizing committee will select outstanding young athletes to further train and strengthen the national wrestling team.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the first matches of athletes aged 14 to 15 took place, cheered on enthusiastically by a large crowd of fans.

According to the plan, the tournament will conclude and close on May 26th.
