Opening of the National Classical Wrestling and Freestyle Wrestling Championship

On May 19, at the Thai Nguyen Province Sports Service and Competition Center, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen Province organized the opening ceremony of the 2014 National Classical Wrestling and Freestyle Wrestling Youth Championships.

This tournament had over 320 athletes from 17 delegations from 15 provinces and two police and military branches nationwide.

Athletes competed in age groups of 14 to 15 years and 16 to 17 years.

Each age group competes in 10 weight categories, with those aged 14 to 15 competing in weight categories from 32 to 85kg for men and 30 to 62kg for women.

Ages 16 to 17 compete in the weight class 42 to 100kg for men and 38 to 70kg for women.

This is an opportunity for athletes to compete, test their skills, and evaluate their own level and quality, as well as that of the coaches of the teams.

Through the tournament, the Organizing Committee will select outstanding young athletes to continue training and adding to the national wrestling team.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the first matches of athletes aged 14 to 15 took place under the enthusiastic cheers of a large number of fans.
