In his opening remarks at the G20 Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that the world economy is recovering but faces many challenges in finance, trade and investment. Therefore, Mr. Xi urged G20 leaders to avoid “just talking” when discussing how to revive economic growth.
BBC quoted Mr. Xi Jinping: "Against risks and challenges to the world economy, the international community has high expectations for this G20 Summit."
In addition to the opening and closing sessions, there were more than 10 different thematic discussion sessions, focusing on 5 main topics: Strengthening policy coordination, creating new growth methods; seeking more effective global economic and financial management mechanisms; strongly promoting global investment and trade; seeking inclusive and connected development methods; and prominent issues affecting the world economy.
This year's conference takes place in the context of complicated developments in the world economy, with global investment and trade continuing to shrink, trade protectionism on the rise, and the world economic recovery process being slow and unstable due to lack of growth momentum.
With the theme "Towards an innovative, dynamic, interconnected and inclusive world economy", China - the G20 Chair this year - hopes that the conference can turn this group into a locomotive, breaking through the difficulties and challenges that the world economy is facing to shift towards "strong, sustainable and equitable growth".
