(Baonghean.vn) - Previously, forests were exploited to the fullest extent, but since the policy of allocating land and forests to households in the early 90s, thousands of hectares of bare hills and mountains in Quynh Luu (Nghe An) have been restored to green, and forests have become "gold mines", bringing a prosperous and comfortable life to all people.
The entire Quynh Luu district currently has nearly 11,000 hectares of forest, of which 8,500 hectares are used for production forest, 7,000 hectares are used for planting raw materials including eucalyptus, hybrid acacia, and cajuput. These plants are suitable for the soil of the area and grow well. |
Raw material forests can be exploited after 3 years of planting. On average, eucalyptus brings in an income of 80 million VND/hectare; Melaleuca and Acacia hybrids 60-70 million VND. Eucalyptus trees alone can be harvested up to 3 times each time they are planted. After cutting the trees for harvesting, eucalyptus shoots grow again, the trees are straighter and more beautiful than the original crop. |
Raw materials from eucalyptus and acacia can be sold in groups: timber for houses for perennial trees, pillars for construction works, pulp, wood pulp, and firewood. In each forest area, many product groups can be harvested. |
Therefore, each hectare of forest harvested requires a large amount of labor. In addition to cutting and sawing logs using chainsaws, the remaining steps are manual labor such as peeling bark, cutting branches for firewood, and transporting to the collection site to load onto trucks. Each harvest, the cost of labor and transportation costs per hectare alone is about 20 million VND. |
Each worker participating in forest production pays differently depending on the job. Each job of planting forest costs 150,000 VND/day, chainsaw cutting trees costs 300,000 - 500,000 VND/day, tree bark peeling costs 200,000 VND/day, and carrying loads costs 250,000 VND/day. Participating in forest production teams, workers have year-round employment with a decent income, ensuring their family's life. |
Developing raw material forest plantations not only creates jobs and stable income for thousands of local workers, but also promotes many related services such as tree nursery, tree sprouting, transporting raw material products for consumption, etc. to develop, bringing many sources of income to the people. |
Since the implementation of the household-to-household contract, people's awareness of forest cultivation and protection has been greatly improved. Although the forest area is large and mainly consists of essential oil trees, there have been no forest fires for many years. |
