Explore the 25-hectare Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Hue
(Baonghean.vn) - The Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Thua Thien Hue province is one of four university-level educational centers of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, which trains hundreds of Buddhist bachelors each year.

The Academy was built in 2015 in Ngu Tay village (An Tay ward, Hue city) on an area of over 25 hectares. The Academy officially enrolled its first undergraduate course in 1997, with 197 Buddhist monks and nuns from 18 provinces and cities across the country participating in the enrollment. |

Over the past 20 years, the Academy has trained 9 courses with more than 1,000 monks and nuns graduating with a bachelor's degree in Buddhist studies and currently there are 480 monks and nuns studying at the school. |

The dormitory at the new Academy can only accommodate male monks, while female nuns must stay in a concentrated area 4km away from the academy. |

There are currently 100 monks residing here. Every day, the monks are only allowed to meditate from 10pm to 3am. From 3am, the monks will meditate, chant, study and practice according to strictly regulated time frames. |

The lecturers are mostly monks and nuns with degrees from the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha. Over the past 20 years, 30 Buddhist monks and nuns from the Academy have graduated with a PhD in Buddhist Studies; most of the Buddhist monks and nuns who graduated from the Academy are currently propagating the Dharma, taking charge of important Buddhist activities at Central Committees and Institutes, in localities across the country and abroad.
