Explore the "strange" house of People's Artist Lan Huong
With 4 floors, an area of about 200 square meters, located in a quiet neighborhood in Cau Giay (Hanoi), the house of People's Artist Lan Huong, if anyone just passes by, will feel very strange.
Right from the entrance, there are statues of Buddha, Catholicism and the Mother Goddess altar. Being the only artist in the North to have a church for 3 religions (Buddhism, Catholicism, Mother Goddess), People's Artist Lan Huong said she has her reasons for doing so.
People's Artist Lan Huong's maternal home is in Binh Da (Hanoi). When she was young, Lan Huong was very sick, so her grandmother took her to beg everywhere, from Buddhist temples, churches, and places where people were performing spirit mediumship. People's Artist Lan Huong's family also has relatives who became monks and took refuge in Buddhism. People's Artist Lan Huong said this so that many people who do not understand will understand why she worships 3 religions in the same house.
“To be able to reach today, I am grateful to all three religions. All religions are good and teach people to be good,” People’s Artist Lan Huong shared.
Before worshiping all three religions at home, People's Artist Lan Huong said she used to go to the Temple, Church, and see the Hau Dong ritual, but all of it was done in a perfunctory manner, her grandmother told her to just go and not pay attention. However, when she encountered major events, she began to truly focus on those three religions to rely on.
“I have achieved what I have today, along with success there are always some bad things. There was a time when I was hit by a car and was stuck under a truck, fell from the third floor to the ground... luckily I was fine. My daughter was also hospitalized, no illness was detected but she gradually got weaker, the doctor told me to go home and wait for the day. At those times, I remembered my grandmother's words and prayed again. I started to turn to spirituality and put my heart and soul into it. I felt very peaceful,” People's Artist Lan Huong shared.

Space near 200m2With 4 floors, People's Artist Lan Huong reserved the top 2 floors as a solemn place of worship. Because she didn't have much money to buyShopping, Lan Huong said she is like an 'ant' occasionally buying a few items and they are not expensive. Since 2001 until now, she has been able to decorate her worship place as she wishes.
Unlike many others, People's Artist Lan Huong's Mother Goddess worship space is only for her and close friends, not open to the public. She said that because she remembers the gratitude of her "superior", every year she also "takes a chair" to serve. Many times when she went to serve in the province, she received many glares from the attendees. "They think that People's Artists must be very rich, serving must be grand, but in fact I don't have the means, serving is just for the heart", People's Artist Lan Huong shared.
The entrance to People's Artist Lan Huong's church makes many people feel strange because on one side is a Buddha statue, on the other side is a statue of God, and on the other side is an altar to the Mother Goddess. |
