Screening for 600 children with congenital heart disease.
(Baonghean.vn) - Today, April 11th, the Nghe An Provincial Children's Protection Fund, in coordination with the Vinacapital Foundation and Da Nang General Hospital, organized a screening for congenital heart disease for children in Nghe An province.
The screening program, scheduled to last two days (April 11th and 12th, 2012), will target 600 children with congenital heart disease across more than 20 districts and towns in the province. Doctors and medical staff from Da Nang City General Hospital will be responsible for the screening.
According to surveys, one in every 100 children is born with congenital heart disease. Currently, in Nghe An province, there are over 300 children waiting for surgery to lead normal lives. The majority of children with congenital heart disease come from extremely disadvantaged families, while the cost of a surgery ranges from 30 to 70 million VND, and complex cases can cost hundreds of millions of VND – a problem completely beyond the financial means of these families.
Many poor parents bring their children for examination at the Welfare Fund.
