Audiences criticize 'Meeting at the End of the Year' as not strong enough to replace 'Tao Quan'
Instead of "Tao Quan" like previous years, on the evening of the 30th of Tet this year, the audience will enjoy a completely new version of "Gap nhau cuoi nam". As the first year of innovation, the program still received a lot of feedback.
On the evening of January 24 (30th of Tet), the familiar prime time slot on the evening before New Year's Eve, the new program "Meeting at the end of the year 2020" with the participation of familiar artists of Tao Quan officially aired. This is the first year the program has been broadcast instead of Tao Quan after 15 years of being a familiar dish for the audience.
If "Tao Quan" is the meeting where the Taos report to the Jade Emperor, then Meeting at the end of the year 2020 is a new play. There is no longer the image of the Taos going to heaven, reporting to the Jade Emperor about the cultural, economic, and social situation of the past year in the lower world, but rather the people of Vu Dai village in the integration period with humorous, rustic stories. With a new format, the program brings laughter to the audience through satirical sayings.

"Meeting at the end of 2020" features familiar artists from Tao Quan. In particular, there are 2 faces participating for the first time, artists Xuan Hinh and Thanh Thanh Hien. |
Immediately after being broadcast, the program quickly received much attention from the audience. Because it replaced Tao Quan, this year's program received even more attention.
Despite the new content, many viewers still think that there are quite a few crude details mentioned, such as raising dogs with "organic food", or the story of Mr. Hac spying on couples in the village sleeping together, which is mentioned quite clearly. The costumes of the female fire dancers are considered too revealing for a program on national television...
Besides, the majority of the audience still expressed regret and thought that the program still could not overcome the huge shadow of Tao Quan.
NTT account wrote: "The feeling is just watching comedy, not the feeling of eagerly waiting for New Year's Eve anymore. I hope there will be Tao Quan next year."
A journalist shared quite frankly: "Watching this year's Year-end Meeting, I don't know what word to use other than bland. From the script, ideas to acting. Everything is awkward and monotonous.
Not to compare it with Tao Quan, but to let it stand alone as a program, unrelated to the familiar name, it is not worthy of occupying the airwaves for nearly 2 hours on New Year's Eve.
Perhaps it is not advisable to save the old show this way. It is probably better to scrap it altogether, for both the TV station and the audience."
"Good but still want to watch Tao Quan more", "Hopefully there will be Tao Quan again next year", "Overshadowed by Tao Quan"..., many viewers commented.

However, it cannot be denied that "Meeting at the end of the year" still has bright spots with humorous and satirical sayings, reflecting the reality of the exchange of traditional values and folk cultural identity. In addition, the program also impresses with its rich performance forms, especially the live performance combining folk dance, contemporary dance, hip hop dance, belly dance, ballet, musicals... What is special is that the program is not overused with advertising elements like "Tao Quan" in previous years.
As the first year replacing "Tao Quan", the program will certainly have many controversies. Hopefully, the content will be renewed and become more attractive in the following years so that the audience can fully enjoy an attractive program that everyone looks forward to every New Year's Eve, as an indispensable part of every New Year's Eve.
