The quantity of Chinese silk fabric and scarf products imported to Vietnam is continuously increasing but the value is getting lower and lower.

According to data from the General Department of Customs, the total import value of silk scarves and silk fabrics originating from China to Vietnam in the first 9 months of the year reached more than 1.2 million USD.

Although this figure is only equivalent to 50% of the total import value of the whole year 2016, the quantity of imported products has not decreased. The reason is that the value of the goods is getting lower and lower.

In the first 9 months of the year, Vietnam imported 4,460 silk scarves "Made in China" with HS code 621410 but the recorded value was only 5,878 USD, equivalent to 1.3 USD, approximately 30,000 VND per piece. This figure is much lower than the import price of silk scarves in 2016 and 2015, with values of 16.4 USD and 5.44 USD per piece, respectively.

Despite the low value, the number of scarves imported to Vietnam has increased dramatically. In the first 9 months of the year alone, the number of silk scarves imported to Vietnam was higher than the number of scarves imported in the two most recent years 2015 and 2016.

For silk products, the import price per meter from China to Vietnam in the first 9 months of the year was only about 3.5 USD. Meanwhile, in 2016, the import price per meter of silk was nearly 5.4 USD. Although the quantity was only about half of the whole year of 2016, the quantity of imported silk fabric in Yards increased dramatically.

"Made in China" silk scarves were imported to Vietnam in the first 9 months of 2017 at a price of only nearly 30,000 VND each.

Recently, the incidentKhaisilk system selling Chinese products but labeling them as Vietnamese has attracted attention, especially from customers who have used these products.

At the press conference of the General Department of Customs held this morning (October 31), in response to a question about the amount of silk that Khaisilk said it imported from China to Vietnam, a representative of the General Department of Customs said that they had just requested the Information Technology Department to access the amount of silk imported from China to Vietnam in the industry's electronic data system.

The General Department of Customs also said that, in addition to the figures on the amount of silk imported from China that will be announced, the amount of each individual unit and enterprise will not be made public. This agency explained that this is because it belongs to the secrets of the enterprise as well as the customs industry's operations and only in cases where the investigation agency requests, the import quantity of each enterprise will be separated. However, according to the representative of the General Department of Customs, it is not excluded that there are other enterprises importing for Khaisilk.

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh recently issued a document requesting the Market Management Department to coordinate with the Competition and Consumer Protection Department to inspect, review and clarify information related to Khaisilk Group selling scarves labeled "made in China". Market Management forces inspected the Group's store on Hang Gai Street on the afternoon of October 26 and said they had discovered commercial fraud and falsification of product origin.

A report from the Market Management Department later said that the owner of Khaisilk 113 Hang Gai business explained that due to negligence in management in response to the sudden increase in demand for goods on October 20, the store staff arbitrarily bought silk scarves on the market, cut off the Chinese origin label, and attached the label "Khaisilk - Made in Vietnam" to sell.
