Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai requested forces to check boats and prepare necessary rescue forces.

On the afternoon of January 4, in Hanoi, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai chaired an urgent meeting of the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention to discuss measures to cope with storm Sonamu (storm No. 1). As of this morning, the Border Guards of provinces and cities from Da Nang to Ca Mau have coordinated with localities and families to notify, count and guide 46,630 ships operating at sea to know the storm's developments so that they can proactively avoid it.

The Truong Sa and South 11th parallel areas have 6,955 ships with 32,700 people, of which there are currently 869 ships with more than 8,000 people operating in the Truong Sa archipelago in the area where the storm is passing.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent diplomatic notes to Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and China asking for help for fishermen in trouble at sea.

The National Committee for Search and Rescue requested the Border Guard, Navy, Coast Guard, Military Region 7 and Military Region 9 to increase forces and vessels to be proactively ready to respond when bad situations occur.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat said that this was the first storm of the year, so people were often complacent. Meanwhile, the boats were mostly small-capacity and not equipped with communication equipment, so communication was difficult.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai directed ministries, departments, sectors and localities to regularly and closely monitor the storm's developments, increase calls for continued counting, urgently call for rescue of ships operating in the area, and strictly manage ships going out to sea.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai requested border guards to check boats and the Navy to prepare forces to organize necessary rescues. Coastal localities should promptly monitor developments of any possible bad situations and pay attention to organizing anchoring and securing fish and shrimp rafts.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention to draw lessons from experience for localities to strengthen management and inspection of necessary equipment on ships, especially life jackets.

Also at the meeting, the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention said: fishing boat BD 95419TS approached fishing boat BD 95427 and brought 4 crew members safely ashore on the morning of January 3.

Currently, fishing boat BD 96430TS has a broken propeller and is drifting. By this afternoon, the Navy ship Truong Sa 20 had approached the boat and will tow it to shore tonight./.
