Urgent action is needed to repair the landslide section on National Highway 48 leading to Thong Thu Border Gate.
Due to the influence of the remnants of Typhoon No. 10, on the afternoon of October 2nd, a serious landslide occurred at Km133+300 on National Highway 48, in Thong Thu commune (Nghe An province), with approximately 25,000 m³ of soil and rocks spilling down, completely cutting off the road. Authorities are currently working urgently to clear the road and ensure the safety of people and vehicles.
Mr. Tran Hong Long - Maintenance Department 2, Road Maintenance Management Board (Nghe An Department of Construction), provided the following information:"Immediately after the landslide occurred, we mobilized all available machinery to clear the debris and open a temporary traffic lane, ensuring the safety of the residents.”
Although remediation efforts are being carried out urgently, due to the massive landslide and treacherous terrain, reopening National Highway 48 to Thong Thu Border Gate is expected to take many more days.
According to officials from the Dong Van Road Management District, approximately 30 more landslides have occurred along the entire route from Km131 to Km160, with an estimated volume of 60,000 m³, causing traffic congestion. Currently, authorities are making every effort to mobilize all available machinery and equipment to clear the road and ensure the safety of the people.
