Urgently produce summer-autumn rice in flood-prone area Chau Nhan
(Baonghean.vn) - While the area inside the dike is safer for production, hamlets 7, 8, 9... in the area outside the dike of Chau Nhan commune (Hung Nguyen) often have to endure flooding at the end of the crop. Therefore, summer-autumn rice production here is always pushed up earlier to avoid natural disasters.
The family has 5 sao of rice, this summer-autumn crop because there is no labor, if hired to plant it would cost 3 million VND, so Ms. Le Thi Xuyen in hamlet 9, commune outside the dike Chau Nhan (Hung Nguyen) had to buy seeds to sow directly.

“The rice has been sown for nearly half a month, but the land is not completely flat because it is a cultivated field. There are many deep puddles where the rice cannot be planted and must be submerged again,” said Ms. Xuyen.
The first crop was sown directly, so in parallel with sowing, she also planted seedlings so that if they were not successful, she could still have the initiative to plant seedlings. The rice was basically growing well, so she pulled up those rows of seedlings to fill the field, and it would be done in a few days.

Also with 5 sao of rice, by May 24, Mrs. Pham Thi Binh had planted 2 sao. While pulling out the rice seedlings, she said: Almost every year this area has floods, so we have to plant early to be able to harvest in August. "The seedlings have been planted for 20 days now, the weather is cool, the irrigation water is favorable so the seedlings are doing very well, in a few days they will be finished planting, but like every year there is no water, we have to go back and forth to plant."
Although she had no labor, Mrs. Binh still tried to borrow someone to plant instead of sowing directly.

Chau Nhan commune has two distinct terrain areas: the area inside the dike (old Hung Chau commune) andoutside the dike(old Hung Nhan commune). If the area inside the dike is safer for production, hamlets 7, 8, 9… outside the dike often have to endure flooding at the end of the season.

The whole commune has 350 hectares of rice land. This summer-autumn crop, Chau Nhan commune strives to cultivate 260-270 hectares, the remaining nearly 100 hectares are areashigh groundIn case of lack of water and drought, some people will switch to growing corn and other crops. In the production structure, mainly Bac Thinh rice, VNR20 and especially about 50% glutinous rice are grown.

According to Mr. Tran Minh Khai - agricultural officer of Chau Nhan commune: For the past week, taking advantage of favorable weather, cool and rainy weather, people have been focusing on the fields to urgently deploy summer-autumn crop production. By May 24, the whole commune had planted more than 50% of the area, of which, the area outside the dike alone had planted nearly 80%, and will be finished in 4-5 days.

“More than 150 hectares of the area outside the dike are planted earlier every year toavoid floodend of season. Up to now, production is basically favorable, river water is stable, and the weather is rainy," said Mr. Tran Minh Khai.
