Urgent harvest of winter-spring rice
(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An farmers have begun harvesting the spring crop. According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the whole province has harvested about 10 thousand hectares of rice.
After several days of heavy rain, Ms. Luong Thi Nam's family (Ru Den hamlet - Thuong Son commune - Do Luong) gathered in the fields to harvest rice. Ms. Nam said: Her family planted 2 sao of Nhi Uu 986 rice. Due to lack of water and cold weather during the rice flowering stage, if in previous years the spring rice yield usually reached 3 quintals/sao, this year it was only about 2 quintals.

This spring crop, Do Luong district has 7,300 hectares of rice, including some new high-quality, high-yield varieties such as Hoa Khoi 4, P6, Nghi Huong... Mr. Tran Doan Hung (Head of the district's Agriculture Department) said: Do Luong started harvesting spring rice 5 days ago, mainly focusing on the flooded summer-autumn rice area of communes at both ends of the district such as Thuong Son, Hien Son, Quang Son... This year, the expected rice yield will only reach approximately 60 quintals/ha, nearly 1 quintal/ha lower than last year's spring crop.

At the “rice granary” of Yen Thanh, up to now, people have harvested about 30% of the area, concentrated in low-lying communes such as Nhan Thanh, Vinh Thanh, Phu Thanh…. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duong – the district’s Agriculture Department, the harvest will be completed by May 25, 2015 at the latest. Although the rice yield is not as high as the spring crop of 2014 (71 quintals/ha), it is still a good crop, expected to reach 70 quintals/ha.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, this spring crop, Nghe An planted over 96,000 hectares of rice, including 15,000 hectares of high-quality rice. Due to the warm weather, the rice plants bloomed and were harvested 7-10 days earlier than usual. Up to now, the whole province has harvested about 10,000 hectares, mainly in Yen Thanh, Do Luong, Dien Chau, Quynh Luu districts... As a "warm spring crop" affecting rice yield, the expected yield is only 64-65 quintals/ha, approximately 1 quintal/ha lower than last spring crop./.
