Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov affirmed on September 13 that Russia will continue to supply military equipment to Syria.

This statement was issued after two Russian transport planes landed at the airport in the Syrian port city of Lattaquié.

Russian media quoted Lavrov as saying that Russian military equipment would continue to be delivered to Syria, along with Russian experts who would train Syrian soldiers to familiarize themselves with and use Russian weapons and equipment.

The Russian Foreign Minister said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will deliver a speech to the United Nations General Assembly this month on issues such as Syria, the conflict in Ukraine, the global economic situation, and Western sanctions against Russia.

Earlier, on September 12, two Russian transport planes also landed at the airport in Lattaquié, carrying 80 tons of humanitarian aid. In recent days, several other giant Antonov 124 transport planes have also landed at this airport.

Over the past week, Foreign Minister Lavrov affirmed that the military equipment Russia has supplied to Syria is entirely in accordance with international law and within the framework of cooperation agreements signed by the two countries.

He also emphasized that Russia made no secret of the fact that Russian experts were present in Syria to train and assist Syrian soldiers in using military equipment supplied by Russia.

The years-long civil war in Syria has claimed approximately 250,000 lives and displaced nearly half the country's population, with many seeking refuge in Europe. The Syrian army is now also fighting on a new front against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS).
