When veterans are party leaders

(Baonghean) - Currently, many veterans have been actively participating in activities in the local political system, including taking on the role of village and hamlet party cell secretaries. They have become exemplary leaders, spreading the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, and stirring up grassroots movements.

Through practical research, the grassroots Party committee cadres in many districts and towns in the province, especially the Party cell secretaries of villages and hamlets, have a large number of members of the Veterans Association. They are people who have been tested and trained in the military environment. After leaving the army and returning to their hometowns, the veterans continue to "fight" on a new front, which is to build and develop their homeland to become more and more beautiful and civilized. They not only contribute to strengthening grassroots Party organizations at the grassroots level but also help to arouse movements and create solidarity in the community.

For example, in Thien Loi hamlet Party cell, Hong Thanh commune (Yen Thanh), the Party cell secretary is Mr. Hoang Thanh Hung, a veteran who has been elected by the people as the head of the village Party Committee for more than 15 years. Joining the army from 1977 to 1981, Mr. Hoang Thanh Hung returned to work in local mass organizations. Mr. Hung said that after 15 years of serving as Party cell secretary, although his health has declined, his enthusiasm for contributing and working for the benefit of the people, building a united and civilized community life is still full.

Commenting on the role of the leader of Thien Loi village, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Hong Thanh commune, Trinh Huu Sam said: “Mr. Hoang Thanh Hung is the one who initiated and organized the call for children and people of Thien Loi hamlet to support nearly 400 million VND to build 300m of traffic road connecting the hamlet to Cho Lum cemetery within just 1 month. In addition, Mr. Hung is also a persistent person, making efforts with the collective to direct and mobilize people to renovate and upgrade the hamlet's cultural house and build a cultural bookcase.

In addition, every month he still regularly rides his motorbike to the Provincial Library to exchange and borrow books; and mobilizes support for books for the hamlet library. Seeing the practical work of the hamlet Party cell and the enthusiasm of Party cell Secretary Hoang Thanh Hung, people increasingly respond and support the policies and resolutions of the Party cell. Therefore, in just a short time, Thien Loi hamlet has expanded the cultural house campus, purchased some equipment and sports tools; especially, has formed a cultural bookcase with more than 800 diverse books in many fields.

Mr. Hoang Cong Nghinh, a resident of Thien Loi hamlet, shared: “The hamlet cultural house has the facilities it has today with an increasingly rich bookshelf thanks to the enthusiasm and determination of Party Cell Secretary Hoang Thanh Hung. He, together with the hamlet Party Cell, has closely cared about the lives of the people, carried out many practical tasks, and has been recognized by the people.”

In Xa Luong commune (Tuong Duong), veteran Kha Van Loi is currently the Secretary of the Lo village Party Cell. At the age of 18, Mr. Kha Van Loi joined the army and fought in the Southwest battlefield in Cambodia from April 1978 to 1982, when he returned to live in the locality. From 2009 to present, Mr. Kha Van Loi has been the Secretary of the Lo village Party Cell.

With the characteristics of a highland locality with many ethnic minority people, to lead and direct the activities of the Party cell and the local movement to develop and ensure the set goals, cadres must be exemplary, prestigious and have high influence. With 29 party members, every year the Lo village Party Cell has built many specialized resolutions on strengthening security and order, changing crop structure and maintaining environmental sanitation in the village. Mr. Kha Van Loi said: All resolutions of the Party cell when implemented, cadres and party members must always be the first to implement, in which the secretary is always the first to do so.

Thanks to that, "for many years now, the lives of the people of Lo village have improved a lot, people focus on raising livestock, planting forests to develop the economy and keeping the living environment clean quite well. Party cell secretary Kha Van Loi himself is always enthusiastic and responsible for his work, so he has a high reputation among the people", said Mr. Loc Quoc Viet - Party Committee Secretary of Xa Luong commune.

Currently, the Veterans Association members in Tuong Duong district have 61 secretaries and village chiefs, and 15 secretaries and deputy secretaries of the commune party committee. In Yen Thanh district, there are currently 312 village and hamlet party cell secretaries who are veterans out of a total of 495 village and hamlet party cell secretaries (accounting for 63%). In other localities, veterans also play a core role in Party building, government building and are exemplary leaders at the grassroots level.

Party cell secretary and hamlet chief of hamlet 9 Nguyen Phuc Canh and Mr. Nguyen Canh Viet - Secretary and hamlet chief of hamlet 13, Trang Son commune (Do Luong) are both members of the Veterans Association who are considered to be capable and enthusiastic in their work. Before being the Party Cell Secretary and Hamlet Chief of Hamlet 9, Trang Son Commune, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Canh had participated in the border war for 6 years. From 1986 to present, he has continuously held the role of Secretary and Hamlet Chief of Hamlet 9 - a unit that has maintained the title of cultural hamlet for many years with a united and unified people, stable security and order, a prosperous life and many children with high achievements. The Party Cell Secretary himself has also been recognized by his superiors for his enthusiasm and responsibility in his work.

Similar to Hamlet 9, Hamlet 13 Party Cell, Trang Son Commune is also one of the outstanding grassroots units for many consecutive years, receiving many Certificates of Merit, including the Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for outstanding achievements in the emulation movement of Nghe An joining hands to build new rural areas in the period 2011 - 2016; Certificate of Merit from the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee for the exemplary strong Party Cell for 5 consecutive years...

Talking to us, the veterans shared the advantages of being trained in the military environment, which has helped them a lot in honing their mettle and movement skills. They also expressed their concerns and worries about the difficult realities at the grassroots level such as party development work, economic development movements, new rural construction, etc. and determined to promote the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new period, continuing to contribute their strength and intelligence to build an increasingly strong local political system.

They have been demonstrating exactly the wishes and trust that Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh expressed at a recent meeting and working session with the Provincial Veterans Association that, "Each veteran will be a political factor leading and supervising the activities of the Party Committee and grassroots government, ensuring both leadership and transparency, dedication, wholehearted service to the people, building a truly clean and strong Party organization and grassroots government."
