When farmers become more proactive in production

(Baonghean) - Not only are farmers hardworking and diligent in production, but they are now gradually adapting to the market mechanism, knowing how to invest and scientifically calculate economic benefits to develop production and achieve high efficiency. In particular, farmers have increased their proactiveness, minimizing dependence on natural factors. Notably, during the recent peak drought period, agricultural production, from crops to livestock, suffered greatly, but in many places, farmers made efforts with various methods to "save" their crops and livestock, with the motto "as long as there is water, we will keep trying," refusing to surrender to difficulties.

Across the province, more than 3,000 hectares of tea plantations were affected, with nearly 850 hectares almost completely wiped out, causing significant losses for tea farmers. In Thanh Chuong, a key tea-producing area, farmers have been using the highly effective "Bep" irrigation system to combat drought, even though the estimated investment cost for irrigating each hectare of tea is nearly 40 million VND. Nearly 40 households in Thanh Chuong district have carefully saved up capital to provide water for their tea plants in this way. Even without the means to install automatic irrigation systems, many farmers here have found other ways to help their tea plants overcome the drought. Some households have gone into the mountains to survey and find springs, then worked tirelessly to build dams and embankments to bring water to their tea plantations, a source of livelihood built over decades.

Not only tea farmers, but shrimp farmers also face numerous difficulties during the hot weather, as hundreds of hectares of shrimp ponds are affected by disease or mass mortality. Many households are left penniless due to the high cost of reinvestment. The cost of specialized medication alone for each hectare of shrimp ranges from 30 to 40 million VND. But despite all this, the farmers haven't given up on their profession; they are persistently mobilizing their last remaining capital to start a new shrimp farming season. Now, across the province's sprawling shrimp ponds, farmers are completing post-disease treatment to continue their shrimp farming business with renewed experience, awareness, and determination to face all challenges.

Thus, farmers have increasingly demonstrated their will to take control of production, apply science and technology, and maintain many sustainable models. In addition, the production of "clean" agricultural products, boldly breaking away from old ways of thinking to adapt to the market economy, and applying modern science and technology to production have gradually been embraced by the people, gradually eliminating the trend of fragmented and small-scale farming. Many people, with increased awareness, have strived to establish farms and models of good and safe livestock farming practices, and cultivate commercial agricultural products applying scientific and technical methods according to the VietGAP program... The agricultural production activities of farmers are increasingly moving beyond simply meeting the needs of households, towards forming agricultural production areas with increasingly improved product quality and economic value. This shows that all levels and sectors need to be more attentive, encouraging, and supportive of farmers to prepare for large-scale production, contributing to deeper economic integration.
