Difficult to find workers to repave sidewalks after clearance

(Baonghean.vn) – After the first days of sidewalk clearance, Vinh City residents joined hands to rebuild sidewalks, ensuring urban beauty and creating convenience for pedestrians.

Unburnt block bricks are used by people to repave sidewalks. On average, each square meter uses 24 of these bricks at a cost of about 3,000 VND/brick. Currently, the cost of workers to rebuild sidewalks is about 60,000 VND/m2.

If the cost of drilling and cutting is calculated based on the area and complexity of each project, then rebuilding the sidewalk costs more. Because in addition to hiring workers, you also have to buy construction materials such as cement, sand, bricks, etc. The larger the area of ​​encroachment that must be enforced, the higher the construction cost.

Ms. Hong, a clothing store owner on Nguyen Van Cu Street, shared: “I have more than 5 square meters of sidewalk that was cleared. Due to lack of health and experience, I hired 4 workers from Nghi Loc to redo it. The price per square meter, including construction materials and labor costs, is nearly 200,000 VND. With such a price, I think it is a bit high.”

Although labor costs are high, hiring construction crews is not easy. Most shop owners said that finding workers to renovate sidewalks at this time is very difficult, while the messy sidewalks greatly affect business.

Due to the high cost, some households reuse the old bricks that are still intact after dismantling to repave the sidewalk. In addition, many households help each other to rebuild the sidewalk to save labor and construction costs.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Quan in Truong Thi ward said: "Finding workers is a bit difficult during this time and if there are any, we have to wait, so the neighboring houses have joined hands to rebuild the sidewalks. Women can transport materials, men can pave bricks, plaster... This method not only saves on the cost of hiring workers but also creates a spirit of solidarity."

However, the process of re-paving sidewalks on some routes lacks uniformity in construction. Therefore, on the same sidewalk, some parts use bricks, while others are re-plastered with cement.

Due to the lack of consistency, when looking at some sidewalks, you will see many different segments and colors.
