Japanese sweet potatoes are so expensive that there are still not enough to sell.
(Baonghean.vn) - This spring crop, Thanh Yen commune, Thanh Chuong district, planted Japanese sweet potato variety KLC 266 for the first time and was successful.
After nearly 4 months of planting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Soa - Yen Thang hamlet, Thanh Yen commune, Thanh Chuong district and 21 other families started harvesting Japanese sweet potatoes. Everyone was excited because this was the first time planting, this new sweet potato variety had a yield of 5 tons/ha.

According to Mr. Dinh The Phong - Chairman of Thanh Yen Commune Farmers' Association, as a locality being directed by the district to build new rural areas, in addition to mobilizing members to contribute and support the construction of works, Farmers' Association and women's organizations boldly build production models. Japanese sweet potato variety KLC 266 has a growing period of 90-110 days. The main characteristics are deeply lobed leaves, short internodes, large tubers, pink-red tubers, yellow flesh, very delicious, boiled potatoes are soft, sweet, fragrant and very popular with consumers.
The current price of potatoes is 20-25 thousand VND/kg, double that of other types of potatoes. Moreover, traders also follow us to the fields to buy and buy as much as they can. “In the first trial crop, we only planted 2.5 hectares and harvested about 13 tons of tubers. At current prices, each hectare can earn 100 million VND, after nearly 4 months of planting,” said Mr. Phong.

Japanese sweet potatoes are not only sweet and fragrant, but many tubers weigh up to half a kilogram. In addition to economic efficiency, according to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy - President of the Women's Union of Thanh Yen commune, collective production is also an opportunity for members to connect, propagate policies and the association's work very effectively. Currently, the commune is directing farmers to harvest immediately and prepare to grow other crops in time to harvest before the flood.
