Approximately 20% of businesses will have their mining licenses revoked.

The reason given by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is that the businesses are unable to pay the fees for mining rights.

Decree No. 203/ND-CP regulates the collection of fees for mineral exploitation rights, aiming to tighten management of mineral activities and ensure state budget revenue.

The implementation of this Decree will curb inefficient businesses. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment stated that in 2015, approximately 20% of businesses are expected to have their licenses revoked due to their inability to pay the mining rights fees.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, Director General of the General Department of Geology and Minerals, stated that to avoid revenue losses for the budget when calculating fees for mining rights, inspection, examination, and exploration activities are being closely monitored by relevant authorities: “This is a new issue with many obstacles that need to be addressed in 2015. The inspections will be thorough and pursue the matter to the end. After the initial inspection, conclusions are reached, and a deadline is set; after 90 days, further investigation will be conducted, and heavy penalties will be imposed.”
