Memovic gap at SLNA, 'foreign goods' or 'homegrown'?
(Baonghean.vn) - Memovic's decision to join HAGL has left a huge gap in the Nghe An team's defense. In the near future, the SLNA coaching staff will have to quickly find a capable player to pair with Hoang Van Khanh in the center-back position.
Last season, it was thought that Pham The Nhat would be one of the two official central defenders of SLNA, after the departure of Que Ngoc Hai and Pham Manh Hung. However, instead of putting faith in Pham The Nhat, the SLNA coaching board implemented the plan to recruit a foreign central defender. The person that the Nghe An team "chosen to entrust" was Memovic.
The Serbian player’s impressive performances for SLNA in the 2019 season have met the expectations of experts and fans of Nghe An. Thanks to Memovic’s excellence, the Vinh team only conceded 26 goals in the 2019 V.League (at least). This is truly a rare “worth the money” deal for SLNA’s Board of Directors in recent years.

In the case of recruiting foreign central defenders, if SLNA owns a player with professional skills and style like Memovic, then there is nothing to say. But if they accidentally sign a contract with a player who is both weak in skills and poor in ethics, it is considered "inviting disaster", "throwing money out the window". In short, the option of recruiting foreign players is always "a risky gamble".

Apart from Hoang Van Khanh, the remaining faces do not bring peace of mind to coach Nguyen Duc Thang. Pham The Nhat is still content with the role of "super reserve", the 3 young central defenders Nguyen Ba Duc, Le Thanh Lam and Thai Ba Sang are too inexperienced in battle. It is difficult for the SLNA coaching board to put their trust in them in a fierce arena like V.League.
It is not known yet, which pair of central defenders will the Nghe An team play with next season? Hoang Van Khanh with a foreign player or Hoang Van Khanh with a "homegrown" product trained by SLNA?
