Enclosing bamboo forests to harvest bitter bamboo shoots for high income

(Baonghean.vn) - Faced with the increasing market demand for bitter bamboo shoots, the Mong people in Pa Khom village, Tri Le commune (Que Phong) decided to protect the bitter bamboo shoot forest according to the policy of the district and commune. The forest is protected, the bitter bamboo shoots also grow well, and traders come to buy them on site.

Bitter bamboo shoots are a favorite dish of people in all regions. Therefore, more and more households in the Que Phong border area are taking up the protection of natural bamboo forests to harvest bamboo shoots.

Each kilogram of bitter bamboo shoots is purchased at the village price of 8,000 - 9,000 VND, bringing a good income to poor families in the Tri Le border area.

Typically, Mrs. Tho Xay Tu's family took the lead in protecting nearly 20 hectares of forest, including many bamboo areas for bitter bamboo shoots. Each year, the revenue from harvesting bitter bamboo shoots alone is 25-30 million VND.

Seeing that Mrs. Tho Xay Tu and her husband had made money by enclosing the bitter bamboo forest, many households in Pa Khom village such as Ly Nenh, Chia Nenh, Va De... also enclose the bitter bamboo forest to take care of and harvest. Some also enclose land to grow the same.

According to statistics, 50% of households in Pa Khom village are receiving forest land, protecting bitter bamboo shoots to increase income. Bamboo of bitter bamboo can be harvested to serve the construction of houses and civil works.
