Construction of 72 boarding schools in land border communes started
The project to build 72 boarding schools in 17 border provinces has officially begun, part of a nearly VND20,000 billion investment program to change education in mountainous areas.
On the morning of November 9, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for 72 primary and secondary boarding schools took place in the border communes of 17 provinces and cities. The event was organized in a combination of live and online formats, broadcast live on VTV1 channel.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and performed the groundbreaking ceremony at the main bridge in Yen Khuong commune, Thanh Hoa province.
Key investment program for education in border areas
The groundbreaking of these 72 projects is part of phase 1 (2025-2026) of the program to build 100 inter-level boarding schools in border communes. This is part of a larger plan to complete a total of 248 schools in this area.
The total investment cost for 100 schools is estimated at nearly VND20,000 billion, with the goal of completion and putting into use before the 2026-2027 school year.
Strategic goals and social significance
The program aims to concretize the policy of the Politburo and the Government on developing education in disadvantaged areas. The main goal is to narrow the gap in learning conditions between regions, creating fairness in access to education for all students.
Besides, investment in education in border areas also contributes significantly to strengthening social security, promoting socio-economic development and maintaining national security and defense in key areas of the country.
Demonstrating the determination of the entire political system
The event was hosted by the Ministry of Education and Training, in close coordination with Vietnam Television, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and 17 localities. The groundbreaking ceremony was connected to 14 points in 14 provinces and cities along with many other online points.
The simultaneous groundbreaking ceremony on a large scale demonstrates the spirit of close coordination and high determination of the entire political system in caring for future generations in the border area.
