Construction begins on the railway overpass project on National Highway 48.
(Baonghean.vn) - The railway overpass project is being built with the aim of reducing traffic congestion at the intersection of National Highway 48, National Highway 1A, and the North-South railway line.
On July 25th, the Ministry of Transport held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a railway overpass on National Highway 48, connecting it with National Highway 1A and the North-South railway line, under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model. Attending the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho, leaders of the Vietnam Investment and Development Bank, and leaders of agencies under the Ministry of Transport. Representing Nghe An province were: Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Ho Duc Phoc; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Thanh Dien; Director of the Department of Transport Nguyen Hong Ky; leaders of the Provincial Police, Dien Chau district, and other relevant agencies.

The National Highway 48 railway overpass project connecting to National Highway 1A is invested in under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model by the Construction Corporation No. 4 in a joint venture with the 319 Corporation of the Ministry of National Defense. The project has a total length of nearly 4km, including the main route and overpass; the starting point intersects with National Highway 48 at km 3+400 in Dien Doai commune, and the end point intersects with National Highway 1A at km 411+686 in Dien Truong commune, Dien Chau district.

The project is a joint venture between the Construction Corporation No. 4 and the 319 Corporation of the Ministry of National Defense. The total investment for the project is over 348 billion VND, using surplus funds from the upgrading and expansion project of National Highway 1A section Nghi Son - Cau Giat. This capital is raised by the contractor through equity and loans to carry out the construction.
The road section is designed to Class 3 road standards, with a design speed of 80 km/h, and the overpass section at the intersection has a speed of 60 km/h. The bridge section itself is designed as a permanent structure using prestressed reinforced concrete.

The overpass project aims to minimize traffic congestion and accidents at the intersection of the two national highways and the North-South railway line. It also aims to facilitate trade and socio-economic development in the Northwest region of Nghe An province.
The project to build an overpass at the intersection of National Highway 48 with National Highway 1A and the North-South railway is expected to be completed in 2015.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, affirmed that the commencement of construction of the railway overpass at the intersection of National Highways 1A and 48 is of great importance in completing the transportation infrastructure in the province, reducing traffic congestion, and ensuring traffic safety, especially when National Highway 1A is officially completed its upgrading and expansion, in accordance with the planning and orientation of transportation development. Nghe An province hopes that the contractors will focus their resources and complete the project on schedule and safely.

Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho affirmed that this is a crucial national transportation hub. The construction of the railway overpass is absolutely necessary. Along with technical requirements, ensuring quality, environmental hygiene, and security, contractors and investors need to coordinate with local authorities in land clearance to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
